The India Meteorological Division (IMD) on Saturday introduced the onset of the northeast monsoon over South India.

The conventional date for the onset of the northeast monsoon is October 21, with a typical deviation of 5 days.

The Met division has stated that widespread average depth rainfall, thunder and lightning are forecast over Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry until November 2. Kerala and Mahe will expertise comparable climate between Sunday and Tuesday.

The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert over Tamil Nadu on Sunday. An analogous alert prevails for Yanam and Rayalaseema and coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Often known as winter monsoon, the rainfall from October to December impacts Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Mahe, Puducherry, Karaikal, Yanam, coastal Andhra Pradesh and south inside Karnataka. It’s a essential season for Tamil Nadu, which receives practically 48 per cent of its annual rainfall this season.
