The Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft liftoff occurred after Russia’s first lunar mission failed final month

Two Russians and an American rocketed towards the Worldwide Area Station on Friday amid raging tensions between Moscow and Washington over Ukraine.

Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara lifted off from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft, which spewed a torrent of fireside. 

The crew was anticipated to dock on the ISS three hours later.

The liftoff occurred after Russia’s first lunar mission in practically 50 years failed final month.

The orbital station is a uncommon venue for cooperation between the US and Russia, whose ties broke down after Moscow unleashed its offensive in Ukraine final 12 months.

Kononenko alluded to the tensions throughout a pre-flight press convention on Thursday, saying that “not like on earth” cosmonauts and astronauts took care of one another in area.
