Zenovich has stated when she talked about the mission round Hollywood, “they would not actually have good issues to say about him,” including: “I simply could not imagine how constant the hate was.”
Some colleagues have defended him. Goldie Hawn, who starred with Chase in Foul Play and Appears Like Outdated Instances, describes him within the documentary as “the actually humorous, wacky loopy, man (who) additionally has a deep coronary heart.”
Others have been much less forgiving. Terry Sweeney recalled an alleged encounter throughout Chase’s return as SNL host in 1985, quoting Chase as saying: “Oh, you are the homosexual man, proper?” and suggesting a sketch involving AIDS.
Chase denies it outright, saying, “None of that is true. I might do not forget that… My reminiscence is that he is mendacity, is my reminiscence. He isn’t telling the reality. That is not me, that is not who I’m.”
Director John Carpenter is blunt about their collaboration on Memoirs of an Invisible Man, saying: “Chevy Chase… I needed to stop the enterprise after working with him. That was my worst. Worst.” The movie’s failure ended Chase’s run as a number one man.
