New Delhi: Claiming that he was not nervous in any respect, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi stated Saturday that his disqualification (from Lok Sabha), conviction, and jail sentence had been “drama” to distract from his questions on cash allegedly mendacity in shell corporations owned by the Adani group.

Talking for the primary time since his disqualification, Gandhi, addressing a press convention on the AICC headquarters in Delhi, stated whereas the Bharatiya Janata Occasion (BJP) needed to “distract” from the Adani problem, he would proceed to query the prime minister’s relationship with Gautam Adani and his conglomerate.

“I’m right here defending the democratic voice of the Indian individuals. I’ll proceed to do this. I’m not scared of those threats of disqualification, these allegations or jail sentences,” he stated.

On Thursday, an area court docket in Surat, Gujarat, had convicted Gandhi in a defamation case over a speech he had made in a 2019 election rally. Within the speech, taking the names of PM Narendra Modi and businessmen-on-the-run Nirav and Lalit Modi, Gandhi had requested why “all thieves have Modi as surname.”

After this, within the present session of Parliament, when BJP leaders referred to as for an apology from him for his alleged feedback made within the UK, Gandhi stated he approached the Speaker once more.

“I wrote to the Speaker. I stated it’s my proper as MP, when any individual makes an accusation, to state my place… The primary letter was not answered. I wrote a second letter with extra particulars…Nonetheless no reply.”

He added that he approached the Speaker. To that, he claimed, “the Speaker smiled, and stated, ‘I can’t do this,” and invited him for tea as an alternative.
